Department Profile

We are a small urban department in Central Indiana that serves an area of 1.7 square miles with a population of approximately 5,700 residents. The department averages 500 runs per year, most being calls for EMS service. We also respond to structure fires, alarms, car accidents, hazardous materials incidents, as well as water rescue runs. We operate out of one station with one engine, one reserve engine, one rescue, a battalion command vehicle, and a staff car. We staff 2 personnel Monday through Friday from 11a-7p and Saturday and Sunday 8a-4p as paid part time to help supplement coverage. Our volunteer home response personnel cover all other times. We have also begun an overnight program. Members are required to work a preset number of shifts overnight where they stay at the firehouse. This allows us to open the residency restrictions and allows members to be on the department who don’t live in the general area.
